Purpose of the role

The Senior Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Systems Engineers role is to design, deploy, operate and performance-tune virtual desktop environments across the Agilisys business. This includes all forms of thin client, Citrix and VDI solutions from all major vendors.

The role includes design, deployment, management, fault finding, performance tunings as well as some elements of day-to-day operation and planning. Further the SVDISE is also expected to be able to work with other staff to deploy solutions in taking into account networking, storage and security.

Key Responsibilities

§          Participate in and support capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals for VDI/thin client solutions in conjunction with data owners and department managers.

§          Help with migration from older platforms to new solutions to improve delivery of VDI/thin client solutions.

§          Work with systems and database administrators to implement VDI architectures that utilize industry best practices and follow Agilisys standards.

§          Install and configure VDI platforms and corresponding software including storage area networking devices and fabric configurations.

§          Implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of VDI delivery to the end users as well as data security.

§          Establish appropriate end-user access control levels for stored data.

§          Develop procedures for backups and restores, as well as monitor the performance, success, or failure of these tasks.

§          Maintain current knowledge of storage-related laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices. Develop strategies and policies to ensure best-practice based regulatory compliance and reduce the enterprise’s legal exposure.
